Description

The listing, GENUINE 664-332 BC Ancient Egypt Statue Leg Fragment With Hieroglyphics has ended.

This is a Mysterious old relic from ancient Egypt! It's a green-blue faience base section of an ancient Egyptian statue known as a Ushabti. The ancient Egyptians called them "Answerers". These statues were used as funerary figurines, with a special purpose. The Egyptians believed that the afterlife was much like this one, and the deceased would need servants to grow crops and such in the hereafter. The deceased, after arriving, would speak words of power to bring the statues to life as eternal servants. This spell can actually be found in Chapter 6 of the Egyptian Book of the Dead. It dates to the Late Period era, approx. 664-332 BC and has traces of hieroglyphics. This is an AMAZINGLY cool relic from the depths of history! See photos for size and condition. I believe that this could easily be made into a pendant or other jewelry if desired. This fragment was attributed by and purchased from David AJ Liebert, well-known author and scholar of the ancient world. Mr. Liebert has published many articles on Antiquities and Ancient Art collecting and writes a monthly column on the subject for the Celator, one of the leading journals of Ancient Art and Numismatics. He is regularly consulted by Museums, Auction Houses, collectors, and other dealers with questions regarding Archaeological Artifacts and Ancient Art. I personally purchased this fragment from him many years ago. This is a very impressive and magical ancient Egyptian relic! No GIN. FREE SHIPPING! US bidders ONLY, must have verified address. All Listia rules apply. Check out my other auctions! Thanks for looking!

No, but my auction ad should suffice for attribution and provenance purposes, if that's what you mean.

if this is genuine, why put it on here....it would be worth a fortune to a real collector unless you know its not real and have no way to prove it is real....if it was real the person you bought it from should have given you some sort of certificate of authenticity...anyone can say something is real but unless it has a SOA its just a rock....

LOL, let me educate you. In fact, COAs are nothing more than a piece of paper with someone's opinion written on it. Anyone can make up a COA. Just Google "blank COA forms" and you can make your own. If you are any sort of collector, you would know that COAs not usual to the antiquities market, but are generated by dealers to sell items to people who aren't that knowledgeable about the item, but want it as a novelty. Real collectors know their stuff, and don't depend on or trust COAs. They also buy from reputable dealers. I have bought thousands of ancient artifacts and coins over the years from many well-established dealers, most with no COA, just an attribution. I do not offer COAs for that reason, as I do not intend to insult the intelligence of my customers, but my auction ads offer the fullest attribution and provenance information possible. I know to some people it's incredible to see something as amazing and old as this on Listia, but I thought it would be fun to list it, as I have a large collection and need to thin it out. Look at my past auctions and you'll see other amazing treasures I have sold, all very genuine!

Aries broken poetry and statues are not worth much to a museum or collector but they make amazing jewelry i know people that volunteer for digs and they come home with bags of broken pots and figures remeber clay was the plastic of the day. If a peice is not significant or important they are either reburied, trashed or taken home. Coas are only good if a reputable person has made it otherwise they should be dismissed.
