Description

The listing, GENUINE 1st-2nd c. AD Ancient Rome Artifact Roman Egyptian god Anubis SCARCE! has ended.

This is a GENUINE ancient artifact from the Roman Empire. It dates to the 1st-2nd century AD. It's made of metal (probably bronze) and measures 1.5" long. It appears to have been a piece of a larger item, perhaps a finial or some kind of decoration. I'm not sure what it's original purpose was, but it's very interesting in that it's a Roman artifact, but features the Egyptian god Anubis. This scarce item shows the Egyptian influence on the Romans after being taken by Rome in 30BC. This item was attributed by and purchased from David AJ Liebert, well-known author and scholar of the ancient world. Mr. Liebert has published many articles on Antiquities and Ancient Art collecting and writes a monthly column on the subject for the Celator, one of the leading journals of Ancient Art and Numismatics. He is regularly consulted by Museums, Auction Houses, collectors, and other dealers with questions regarding Archaeological Artifacts and Ancient Art. I personally purchased this item from him many years ago. This is a wonderful and historic item which would make an awesome addition to your collection, or could become a fantastic and unique piece of jewelry. Shipping is FREE, US bidders ONLY, must have verified address. All Listia rules apply. Check out my other auctions! Thanks for looking!

Do you have proof of authenticity?

My auction ad supplies excellent provenance. As I've said several times before on past auctions, Certificates of Authenticity are shams and I don't use them. Real collectors despise them,as they are considered to be untrustworthy novelties. If you know your stuff, you'll know it's real. I understand that some people are amazed to see something this old and rare on Listia, but it's absolutely real. I'm thinning out my collection and lucky Listians have a chance to own a part of Ancient History! I invite you to look at some of my past auctions and comments from the happy winners!

Is the tip broken off?

If you mean the nose, it's rounded off and does not look broken or chipped at all. The other end was broken off from a larger piece sometime in antiquity.
