You are bidding on a seedling(live plant) with well developed roots. All listia rules apply. I mail out on Fridays and I live in a very Rual area of an Island so please allow a little time to get there. I will mail plants out with tracking #. Information: Also known as flame or flamboyant tree, royal poinciana (Delonix regia) is a semi-evergreen or deciduous member of the bean family characterized by fernlike, lacy green leaves, scores of spoon-shaped, brilliant red flowers and brown pods that make a rattling sound when wind goes through the tree. Royal poinciana is a tropical tree that will not thrive if temperatures drop below 45 degrees Fahrenheit. It is a suitable landscape tree for gardeners who can offer it a bright, full-sun location in U.S. Department of Agriculture zones 10 to 12. When grown in proper conditions, royal poinciana requires relatively little care.
1Water the poinciana regularly with a garden hose after initial planting to help the tree establish a deep, healthy root system. Once royal poinciana is established, supplemental watering is usually necessary only during dry periods. Avoid overwatering, because the tree is susceptible to root rot if left in standing water. It generally does not require much supplemental watering in the winter, only water if soil becomes
Prune away the lower limbs with your pruning shears or handsaw while the tree is young. This prevents the tree from forming branches too low to the ground, which will be difficult to walk under. Prune continuously throughout the tree's life so that there are no major limbs 8 to 12 feet above the ground. Because the tree has brittle wood, prune major limbs if they extend too far out from the trunk -- this will help keep the branches from splitting.
3Check occasionally for pests such as caterpillars, which can cause some foliage damage. On healthy poinciana trees, pests are not usually not serious enough to warrant control.
