I'm sure this stone is worth at least 100.00. what keeps it from being a top tier stone is the internal fractures and inclusion visible to the naked eye.It is still however a very nice emerald and would make a great piece of jewelry. The color is good and the size is nice. If you have any paperwork on this stone I would recommend you offer it with the stone, to shut down those who think they know but don't. Good Luck with your auction and whoever gets this will have grabbed up a bargain.
You're awesome. Ignore the people who always have to down everyone else. They should check out your 100% positive feedback on over 2800 auctions. Not to mention over 9100 fans :)
Emerald tends to have numerous inclusions and surface breaking fissures. Unlike diamond, where the loupe standard, i.e. 10× magnification, is used to grade clarity, emerald is graded by eye. Thus, if an emerald has no visible inclusions to the eye (assuming normal visual acuity) it is considered flawless. Stones that lack surface breaking fissures are extremely rare and therefore almost all emeralds are treated ("oiled", see below) to enhance the apparent clarity. The inclusions and fissures within an emerald are sometime described as 'the garden', because of their mossy appearance. These imperfections within the stone are unique to each emerald and can be used to identify a particular stone. Emerald is classed as a "Type III" in the GIA clarity grading system. This means that these stones are commonly included, and the inclusions are mostly visible to the trained eye. Only a few emeralds are "eye clean". In general, eye-visible inclusions in emerald are forgiven if the stone shows good color and transparency overall. The emerald is often clouded by inclusions, they are not classified as faults but show the difference between natural and synthetic stone.
May I ask how long you have been collecting & do you have a favorite specimen? I'm still crying over that gorgeous polished malachite Gayle won from you but knowing what happened to her first collection I did not have the heart to try & outbid her. I hid everything from my mom in my fort in the woods..lol..and still hiding stuff from hubby in my fort in the woods here :))) Only Opal knows where it is at =^..^=
I've been collecting about 56 years. My favorite gem is Emerald. My favorite stone is Bertrandite or 'Tiffany stone' from Utah. My favorite crystal and what I collect the most of is Quartz crystals.
NICE gem like usual!! I hope you don't mind me bragging about your listings but most people don't know that you started the wonderful trend of listings these gorgeous gems & rocks/minerals. I have learned much from this modest, honest top shelf seller & as a winner of her auctions her gems ARE FOR REAL. Thanks GAHylbach for always making Listia a great place to be =^..^=
as you can see by my picture i do know something about gems since i cab and carve them by hand useing mostly diamond file and sand paper and once in a while i use a dremmel too get rid of the scap non useable areas then finish in my usual manner
NOOOO..please dont quit listing!!! Your 9000+ fans would be heart broken :((( If you do gaylewildt & I are moving to washington for our rock & kitty fix. Thanks to you her collection is looking fabulous!! I'm bringing the other rock people too ..lol..I'm hoping you have a really big house or you can just keep listing :)
Don't worry - I'll keep listing. I have no heirs and I want to liberate as much of my horde as I can bear before I leave. I've seen pics of some of Gayles collection - it is fabulous!
WOW, who would have thought listing something on here( and giving someone a good deal in the process) would have caused such a stink? If you all have doubts, don't bid...pretty simple concept. Get off the persons back already!!!
Not at all! No problem. It's a legitimate question. I don't have certification as it would cost me $25 to $40. This is a real, natural Emerald that comes with credit back guarantee.
The bertrandite is one of my favorites too!!! I have a 2 small ones that I purchased in Utah about 10 yrs ago...I used to love digging there when I lived out west. My window sils are full of quartz crystals as I love how they leaves "sparkle spots" on the walls in the sunlight.
I am skeptical (I'm not necessarily doubting the authenticity of your item) about a posting like this on here, it's worth soooo much more than some credits on listia, why not sell it some other way for the full value? To me it seems kind of like a waste or loss to you...
