Description

The listing, Sony Mavica CD500 Camera with lenses and accessories - Free Shipping! has ended.

This is almost everything you need to get started! You WILL need to buy a set of step rings to attach lenses. I only have one set and I'm keeping them because I have several other sony cameras that I use them with.

Here's what you get:
Sony Mavica Digital Camera (model #MVC-CD500) 5.0 mega pixels. It takes still photos and video with sound. It stores images on 8cm mini discs inside the camera.

2 image mixer discs (for sony) with drivers. I never needed the drivers because I just plugged it into my computer directly & used the same disc over and over. If you use the mini cd's in the CD tray of your computer you may need to install the drivers (but plugging it into the usb port is so much easier).

Mini disc converter ring (in case your CD tray isn't made to accommodate the mini discs)

10 CDR and CDRW discs

Wide angle conversion lens by fujifilm with storage bag

High Definition 2.2 telephoto conversion lens by vivitar with storage bag

High Definition glass filter with storage case

Sony adapter ring (adds length so the built in Zeiss lens can telescope in and out to focus). Without it you can't use other lenses

Owner's Manual

Charger with 3 batteries

Original strap and lens cap

Table top tri-pod

I haven't used the camera in a couple of years but I turned it on and tested it. It works perfectly.
Questions & Comments
Original
The discs are CDRW and CDR. They are also known as "mini compact discs". They are sold at Walmart, Office Max, Radio Shack, etc. You can use any brand but the camera will tell you on the screen when you first put it in that it prefers Sony brand. They all work the same once you initiate the disc. I just looked them up on walmart.com and they have a 15 pack with a storage canister for $10 so they are NOT expensive if you'd rather keep your photos on disc and not take up space on your computer.

Does it have internal storage? other than the disk? i am unfamiliar with this camera. you had said something about a camera to computer cord?
Sep 4th, 2014 at 3:43:27 PM PDT by
Original
Yes it does but it holds a very small amount of data internally. I'm not sure of the exact size but it will only take a half dozen pictures or so before it tells you that it's out of space. You can change the size of the pictures and it would hold a few more. With all the spare discs that come with (and they are reusable) there's no need to worry about internal memory. Thank you for asking!

I agree! Sony makes the best cameras. The picture quality is amazingly crisp. I have upgraded to a sony h2 and sony alpha dslr. Otherwise I would not part with this one. The winner is going to fall in LOVE with this camera. Thank you for commenting!

Every good photographer I know has a back up. If you use a dslr it's a great idea to have a backup that does video. You never know when you'll need it and it's great for weddings. I did my son's wedding video with this camera and it turned out wonderful.

My phone has more mega pixels
Sep 5th, 2014 at 4:42:26 PM PDT by
Original
Yes, mine too. But the sensor in our phones can not match the image quality of this camera. Our phones can not be adjusted like this camera. People who genuinely love photography like to be able to adjust aperture and tweak settings for that perfect shot. My new iphone can't even come close to what this camera can do, even with the expensive aps I've installed. I take pics with my phone all the time but when I want real quality I pull out a real camera. Unless you want to print huge posters of your photos 5 mega pixels more than enough. Thanks for commenting.

how many photos will the disc hold
Sep 8th, 2014 at 6:52:49 PM PDT by
Original
That depends on your settings. It records in several different sizes and I honestly don't know how to answer that. I always carried a couple of extra discs with me and there were only a few times I had to insert a new one. But then I'm the kind that takes several shots of each subject in hope of getting that one perfect shot. My best answer is "several". I want to say somewhere between 2 and 3 hundred but again it's going to depend on your settings. there's an indicator on the screen that shows how much disc space is left and you'll know a long time before you get to that point and just pop another one in. I wish I could be more precise but it's been a couple of years since I really used this camera and I just don't remember! I'm sorry.

can you use those tiny memory cards instead of the disk? i can just stick this memory card into my tiny portable printer and print pictures right away. not sure how to handle the discs. however i can put a disc in the camera and just download the pictures into my computer then print the off the computer and erase the pictures in the disc?
Sep 10th, 2014 at 11:49:15 AM PDT by
Original
No, it doesn't use memory cards, just the discs. Yes you can download the pics directly to your computer via the cables. You don't need drivers or any of that stuff if you use the cable. Just plug it in to the computer and it automatically asks if you want to view or download. I always download and then erase the disc. I have rarely ever even opened the back cover of the camera since the cable method is so easy. I just use the same disc over and over usually. You can always tell it to save them to the san disk drive. I have and it worked great. I usually save them to my flash drive to conserve memory on my laptop, but if your computer has a san disk it works just as well. Thanks for asking!

I have a Sony Mavica that im using for Listia right now. I have been using this camera since 1994! The cameras dropped 100,s of times, been in the rain, snow, cold, hot weather...all of that but like that pink bunny the SONY'S never seem to quit!! I dont know this sweetheart of a woman selling this camera but you are all getting a great deal here....if my cam were in any way on its way out I would go up to 250k for the Mavica, and its a steal at THAT! Karen youre a sweetheart with TONS of patience,God bless you!

My disabled daughter would love this. She is totally into photography. But cameras like this are way too expensive for us. F&w. Maybe I will get lucky it would be a great present.

It also includes the USB cable, a hard storage tower for the discs, and plastic storage sleeves for the individual discs so you don't have to carry them all with you if you don't want to.

what is the threading on the 2.2x telephoto auxiliary lens?
Aug 24th, 2014 at 6:22:42 PM PDT by

It doesn't say on it and I don't remember. I think it's a 58mm but I'm just guessing. It doesn't really matter if you have step rings to reduce or increase the size.

I have 2 large lenses that I'll be listing in the near future. They aren't thread mount and I honestly don't know what they go to. When I list them I'll include some clear close ups of the mounts. I don't have any thread mounts that I don't use.
