Description

The listing, 7 plus Thornless Nopal "Nopales" Cactus Plant Starts Old Plant Stock Up to shipping Cost weight has ended.

You will get anywhere from 7 to 10 pads or more live leaf starts ++ from this Thornless Nopales or Cactus. NO CHEMICALS!
These plants are Hummingbird & bee attractant:-)
This cactus could be considered HEIRLOOM as it is direct planting from a very old stock from West Texas. The main plant these came from is at least twenty years old or older.
They grow well indoors with plenty of sun in warm room, solarium or outdoors where it doesn't go below 32 degrees for more than a few days.
They grow to be huge trees if left to themselves.
Prune or even cut down and they will grow back. The fruits have little HAIR THORNS take care still when picking and cleaning.
Just stick the starts into sandy soil, keep mildly damp. Start will root and your cactus is on it's way.
Take small leaves off when you want to eat, wash carefully scrape off nubs and bumps.
Slice diagonally into very thin slices, saute in pan with a little coconut oil and lime juice or lemon and onion if you choose. Once the color has changed they are ready to eat. If they are too slimey and there is a lot of gelatin use a screen and rinse till slime is rinsed off. Then reheat in pan for a couple more minutes. Saute with meat or shrimp virtually anything you'd like. The smaller and thinner the better, I think. You can also boil first and strain. Then fry.
They have a semi sour taste once cooked.
Great for lowering blood pressure and great for diabetics: Daily intake of 100g to 500g of nopal cactus divided in three servings is the recommended dose for diabetes. Broiled stems are more effective than raw stems

We won some of these from Marahaka about a year ago, and they are doing great!!! We enjoy them a few times a week in a recipe that my boyfriend created, and we named Cactus Salad (creative, huh???)! You can't go wrong with these!!!
