Description

The listing, 1871 United States Revenue Orange 2 cent Stamp has ended.

This is an amazing stamp. At 140 years old, this stamp is in amazing condition. I researched it and discovered that it was worth $30-$40. My grandfather bought me a lot of stamps off of eBay for really cheap, and this was in it. I thought it looked unusual, so I researched it and was shocked with the results. If the bidding reaches 250 credits, I will throw in a 1940's WWII stamp, also in great condition. I will even do free shipping, as I need the credits desperately.

Could you provide the citation for your value of this stamp, as I believe that it is Scott #R15, neither the double transfer, not triple transfer, nor cracked plate which might command such a premium as you suggest (if it were un-cancelled).
And, this the most common cancellation form of the day, namely hand signed and dated. Thus, however nice, it would have a value of under one dollar. Thanks.

Hey, Not stupid! This is really hard!
However, I would suggest that if you think something is "...", say that; and then, say where you got the information that makes you think so. Then every one can check it, too.
That way, the worst you can be is just in error -- and the best is you may be right and teaching everyone else at the same time. [We all make errors. I did not wish to make you feel bad.]

By the way, it is a great stamp. Beautiful with a handsome cancel. One of my favorite engraved stamps. Its just not "rare".

One question. Can you actually read the date and initials?
Sometimes, there can be something very special about that date and/or the person who cancelled it, that is more rare than the stamp!
( Example: What if the date on a stamp was the very day the civil war began and from the town where the first battle was fought and the Post Office was destroyed? Do you think that might make the ordinary stamp more valuable? I'm not saying this is something like that or that the one you saw at $30- $40 was, but that kind of cancellation can make a great difference in price. There is just so much to know about this stuff!)

i can't make out the letters as i can't read old-fashioned cursive too well. also, to the high bidder this time, if you do not want this stamp any more as it isn't as valuable as i thought it was, i completely understand. i will just relist it with renewed information. sorry for the mix-up, everybody. :-/
