I had a netgear 4 port router hooked up to my desktop so when my mom came over she could use her laptop. It burned out after a loooong time so curious does this work? and is it compatiable with DSL phone internet service?

well yes if you have a dsl modem yes and yes does work i changed it router i went to a netgear router,so yea used a couple of times'
