That is the seed pod...it opens and the seeds fly through the wind.I get the pod from the plant just as it is about to pen so I can save the seeds for myself and others.

If Monarchs were extinct, Pacifica, California and other cities from Pacifica, CA all the way up the Oregon Coast would not have the Butterfly gardens that feature predominantly Monarch butterflies. Asclepias currasavica is host to primarily Queen and Monarch butterflies and is often planted to attract butterflies.

The Monarchs will arrive in Santa Cruz CA in October. I am further north in Berkeley CA and will hopefully see them on my Milkweed plants too (different variety than yours). Great auction but the Monarchs are not extinct yet!

The Monarchs are not yet extinct but like the auction says they are becoming extinct. Perhaps it would have been better to say endangered. Thank you Gemmarie for helping to keep them from becoming extinct!!
