Description

The listing, Unknown Ancient Judean Coin has ended.

Ok I have had this coin for a long time, and to this day I know absolutely NOTHING about its origins.

I work at a taxi cab company with a lot of guys who know multiple languages, and I had three of them look at it and they all agree that the coin is Judean in origin, but that is all they knew.

It seems like NOBODY knows what this coin is or how old it is, or if it's even real? *shrugs* I have no clue!

I'm hoping there's a collector out there somewhere who would like to have it and can maybe figure out what in the world it is! LOL

Happy Bidding!

***** UPDATE! *****
===============

After looking online for Judean coins, I stumbled upon the image of an Israeli postage stamp with a VERY similar image on it as one of the sides of my coin. So MAYBE it is real... I really don't know, but this is the closest I've ever come to finding a match! Very exciting!
Questions & Comments

the coin was minted arround 135ad durring the jewish revolution. 10 coins were minted within a 100 year period. this does confound me a bit because there were 2 coins that had the fig palm and grape on them....not sure wich minting they were but that gives you a general idea of their age :)

I can see how it might be bronze but then again I dunno because bronze tends to turn green as it ages, doesn't it? or am I thinking of copper?

not sure if its authentic though...bronze coins dont age well and this one looks pretty damned good for being almost 2,000 years old...but i could be wrong...i have a widdowd mite (2,500 years old) that is also bronze and is in excellent condition and has been authenticated by a museum curator.

Here's a link to some Judean coins. Yours looks similar to Bar Kochba coins.
My Hebrew stinks, sorry. I also don't know value or authenticity.

Very interesting coin by the way. I hope it is authentic. How many years would you say you have been in posession of this coin?

I have plenty of ancient bronze coins that aged as well... it depends a lot on how they were stored and often the type of soil they were buried in. I also have a bunch of what are called bronze culls which are so deteriorated that they cannot usually be identified... many times the disease gets so bad they look like swiss cheese they have so many holes in them. They are a nightmare to clean and then very disappointing when they turn out to be so horribly deteriorated.

I agree it's so sad that a lot of people don't really research on the proper care of their coins. And so many think shiny means value, when in fact cleaning a coin does more damage than good most often times. :o/

No worries - I won't have another like this but as I go through boxes of stuff I'm sure I'll run across more coins and collectibles :) We moved a year ago and only now are finally starting to search through all the boxes in the closet LOL

Hey Lisa! You reminded me about a shipwreck coin I've had put away for years! I went ahead and listed it - I know for a fact it's real :) Here's the link: http://www.listia.com/auction/2056313-ship-wreck-treasure-constans-337-350-a-d
