No hon, gold filled is stronger, thicker than regular plated. Did you read the bottom part of my description? This explains what gold filled is. Honestly I didn't know either when I started listing, but I did research on it and I would buy it over plated any day. I've kept a ring and have had it on for a month now, it looks just like the day I started wearing it. Do some research on gold filled jewelry yourself if you feel uncomfortable. It's also know as the new rolled gold. Hope this helps hon.
