Description

The listing, Black Mondo Grass Seeds Ophiopogon planiscapus has ended.

This auction is for 6 seeds of Black Mondo Grass, AKA Ophiopogon planiscapus (Latin name), AKA Black Lilyturf. It takes patience to grow these, but I have had personal success and it is so worth the wait. It helps to plant them NOW (fall) so that mother nature can loosen the seed coat over the winter to help with germination.

These are cool! And they are so expensive at the garden centers. Grow your own instead!

Zone 6A to 10b, needs shade/partial sun.
Evergreen and never needs cleaned up (doesn't get "messy")
Tough plant, tolerates drought.

Seeds should be planted just under an inch apart, cover them with a layer of compost and water them.

Do not let the soil dry out. Place the pot out of the way or in a cool room indoors.
After germination, plant them out in rich soil about 2 inches apart. Water well and your Black mondo grass will soon establish and begin to spread by means of slow runners (not invasive at all).

Good luck!

Well, some websites say it is hardy in zones 6-9, but others say zones 5-10. I found some articles saying it does fine in areas as cold as zone 5, so I would trust that. Yes, this is a beauty. I forgot to mention that in addition to the lovely black grassy leaves, it does bloom in summer with pretty purple flowers, then gets shiny black berries that last through the winter. Thanks for asking, and good luck if you decide to bid! :)
