I was using it as a modem , but to my understanding it could be used as a router , its actually a combo.

It is both a wireless router/modem... meaning it can put out a wireless connection and you can connect four lan devices... you dont have to have internet for it to be able to use wifi BUT you need a net connection to change the setting... I have had a wireless router/modem before my aunt broke it

Do i have to have internet to use the wifi on it because i don't have internet connection but my uncle has cable internet down stairs with Ethernet and wifi connections, Can i use this to connect to him wireless?

you wuld have to pay an extra fee (if the company requires it) to connect an extra modem/router via lan (or ethernet either way thats probably the best way to connect 2 router/modems) to the one that the company provided you with plus you have to change the IP address of the one you are connecting to prevent network connectivity problems... hope that answered ur question

oh and continuing on from my last post no you do not need internet to use wifi with most router/modems... but again you do need internet to manipulate most of the settings

You need to reset and go to netgear for install instructions , but I will be providing winner with PDF & link to install. Easy stuff.

this modem is great hope my kids win this. i hate dsl its slow i have cable and they said if i get a cable modem they will turn me on. there modem rental is 29.99 deposit and 9.99 a month rental.
