I've had this wrapped in paper for so many years, I forgot I had it. Being a Leo, I'm sure was the reason I bought it. Since I haven't used it, nor missed using it, it needs a new home.
It will make a great gift for any Leo that you know....actually any one that you need a gift for, I think, would find pleasure in receiving this. It was made with perfection. Look at the colors. Even the drawing is so exact in surrounding this gorgeous king of the jungle with just the right colors so he is still the prominent one in the picture. Check out the rose in his mouth!
Within my research of the maker, Robert M Weiss, I found he took his art to Peru and trained the younger artisans the art of reverse painting on glass. In one word it is called eglomise.
The process requires the design to meticulously be painted in the reverse, on the glass, then placed paint-side-down onto the frame.
Each is hand-painted. You'll never find two alike.
With the advent of the computer age, fewer and fewer artisans exist, as Old World techniques are slowly or no longer produced, resulting in these one of a kind reverse painting on glass, quickly becoming family heirlooms.

To call this just a box seems so simple. But, this box measures 9" side to side, 2-1/2" top to bottom and 4-1/4" front to back. The inside is covered in a black velveteen.
However, the top of the inside is just painted a matt black. The depth of the inside is just about 1-3/4".

The pictures show each panel. It is all glass except for the frame. It has no lock. Measurements were taken of the framework, not the inner glass panels.
