Description

The listing, 10 Northern Catalpa Tree Seeds has ended.

Store the seeds in a plastic bag until late spring once daytime temperatures reach 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the bag in a cool, dark place with low humidity, such as inside a closet

Prepare a pot for each seed. Fill 4-inch pots with a mixture of 3 parts acidic compost, 1 part perlite and 1 part sand. Pour water into each pot and let the moisture soak in for 20 to 30 minutes.

Sow one northern catalpa seed in each pot. Poke a 1/8-inch-deep hole in the compost mixture. Place the seed inside and cover it with a 1/8-inch-thick layer of pine needle mulch.

Place the pots outdoors in a cold frame or against a sheltered, south-facing wall. Shield the pots from direct sun at midday if the weather is very warm, because excessive heat will dry out the compost.

Water the northern catalpa seeds whenever the compost mixture feels barely moist on the surface. Mist the compost liberally with a spray bottle or slowly pour water around the seeds to keep from disturbing them.

Watch for sprouting in two weeks. Grow the northern catalpa seedlings in their pots until they reach 5 inches in height. Transplant them into a permanent bed with moist soil in autumn.
