Description

The listing, Mid-Century Ceramic Art the WALRUS (You remember "I am the walrus, Goo Goo G'Joob) has ended.

We have John Lennon to thank for the lyrics, and the Beatles for singing "I am The Walrus." But when it comes to ceramics and art, this walrus was designed by Taisto Kaasinen, for Arabia, a Finnish ceramics company.

He's a humble little guy. Likes to have his picture taken as he stares right at the camera.
A difficult one to measure, as it's hard to know where to begin and where to stop.
His teeth....they're 2" long. Measuring the front, top of head, straight to bottom is about 6". From the top of his head, right between the eyes, stretching down the back to the bottom is 9". Side to side, right under his teeth, it's about 4-1/2". He looks much bigger in pictures.
He was born sometime in the 60's.

Please ask questions. I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks for looking. He's just adorable. I should say, he's perfect in every way. The glaze accentuates the texture in a very life like way.

And, he can be yours. For the highest bid, I'll ship him to your Listia verified address for free. He'll have tracking so we can follow him. I know you will provide a good home.

****Just saw some completed and pending sales for the Walrus on etsy and ebay ranging $75-$229***

I don't know. I appreciate your kind words. I have a set of Culver "Mardi Gras" or "Jester" drinking glasses from the early 1950's. Gorgeous! I'm thinking of splitting them up. Four Listia, four for me. If you saw them I think you'd say those were the best to auction. Go to ebay and check. Let me know what you think. I saw them at $50.00 each.

I hope this adorable creature finds a great home and earns you lots of credits because he's so worth it. And I hope his new owner feeds him lots of ceramic seafood to keep him spherical and happy :)

No glasses for me. Trying to decide which of your auctions are more valuable I know about the Walrus but unsure about the soapstone but something tells me the soapstone is a super treasure. I believe the soapstone to be Oriental as well.Wished I knew more about soapstone but I do not own any. Have only seen a couple small carvings that were worth a fortune but like you if someone knows more I would like to know more about it too.

Keep in mind, on the soapstone, very juvenile looking, and maybe a child did get a hold of it and scratched into it (on the back) Made China. The "made" is printed all capital letters, and China is bigger and in script, but big letters. You don't really see it unless you look for it.

I think the soapstone is either Japanese or Chinese mythical creature. and one of a kind making it rare since it was hand carved another one like it in my opinion probably does not exist increasing it's value.
