Description

The listing, Numismatic Coin Lot; Canada; 5-cent; George V; 1922-24; Circulated has ended.

Thank you for browsing.

This is my absolute favourite overall Canadian nickel design. Though I do admire the 1967 Hopping Rabbit nickel, the effigy of George V (used on the 1922-36 nickels) seals the deal for me. As I've recently upgraded my George V nickel collection – with higher graded pieces – I now have these treasures to share with a fellow George V nickel enthusiast. Please see my other auctions for the other years in this series.

The winner of this auction will receive a total of three (3) Canadian 'George V' 5-cent (nickel) coins in circulated condition - one (1) 1922, one (1) 1923 and one (1) 1924. These coins have a metal composition of .99 nickel; diameter of 21.21mm; weight 5.44 grams and mintages are 1922 – 4,763,000; 1923 – 2,475,000; and 1924 – 3,067,000.

PLEASE NOTE – These coins are in circulated condition – please refer to photos. Grade labelled on coin flip is my best approximation based on 'Coins of Canada' grading standards. You will receive the exact coins shown in the photographs. Coin easels NOT included.

Questions and comments are always welcome. Thank you for your interest and supporting Listia.  If you like what you see, please feel free to view my full auction listing for other interesting treasures looking for a forever loving home.  If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please feel free to send me a Listia email - you just never know. :-)

INTERESTING FACT: “In order to provide a 5-cent piece of a more manageable size, and 'because nickel is essentially a Canadian metal' the Canadian government introduced a coin of pure nickel in 1922, similar in size to the 5-cent coins of the United States.” CoC 2014

Great nickel auctions. I see there are several, but I'll be watching these older ones. I also completely agree, this is my favorite nickel design too.

Thank you, as always for browsing and taking the time to comment.

If you haven't seen, already, the RCM is issuing a series of 1oz silver (with select gold-plating) coin series this year honouring the different Canadian nickel designs over the years. Though I'd love to pick up the whole set (6 coins), budget dictates I focus on my two favourites - this one and the '67 Hopping Rabbit.

Those sound amazing. It'd be nice to have them all but at least you can afford a couple of them. My budget dictates that I'll just have to admire them from afar.

My budget dictates I admire them as well. My desire says scrimp and save and, since they should be spaced out over about 6 months, cross my fingers something else I want doesn't come up. ;-)

I saw the first one issued and it is beautiful. If that is any indication of those to come, you might just have to find a way to get them all.

With six in total at $109.95 (CAD) each...I'm stretching with the two I want. On top of them I've got 3 of the new $100 for $100s to pick up - and another lot of 3 come summer and the next $200 for $200 should be in the late summer, and I get 2 of those. So, when you factor in all the $20 for $20s...the whole series of this one just ain't gonna happen. Oh, and it's only February - give the RCM a couple more months and they have my head exploding with all the cool new coins I absolutely must have. ;-)

I know you love all those sets, and while I can't afford nearly that much, I hope you'll have my back a little this year. Starting with that MacDonald toonie.

Still waiting for the RCM to ship my MacDonalds - along with my Canada Flag $25 for $25s. ;-) As promised, one is allocated to you special package.
