AWESOME BOX!
I'm an interior designer and I've taken a ton of art history courses and if the top has been handpainted ... Based on hinge construction and the painting's theme, you probably have a European box from the late 1700s to mid 1800s. It probably was once lined with some sort of felt or other fabric; they didn't usually paint the inside, especially if someone took the time to paint to put that much effort into the artwork & relief carving. If I'm the least little bit right, whoever wins this should treasure it! Have you ever had it looked at by professionals? It's not likely that a famous artist painted this, but it's also not impossible! This could be worth a little chunk of change just because of its age!
