Ithink they are old, but I am not sure because I don’t know the exact origin of where they came from, but one thing I do know is that they are very, very cool! And what an odd shape! Quite heavy, and i think they are bronze or brass, and they measure over an inch and a quarter (1 ¼”) if you are measuring the long way on the egg shape. That is the color they are, and they aren’t rusty, except a little bit in where the screw is supposed to go. These would be fabulous for large antique built-in cabinets, and furniture. Here is what one ebayer did with a set she got from me, thought this was kind of cool this is her very own words:

“Hi! What I did was apply a dark walnut stain with a small paintbrush, and blotted it off a few minutes later with a soft cotton cloth. It took about a day to dry (longer than if applied to wood). It changed the color from a pale verdigris, or pale mint green, or sea foam green, to a dark green, pretty close to hunter green. It also darkened the bronze blotches to black. They really look great. I ordered a cast iron door knocker that was also done in the verdigris type finish, only the color on it was more of an electric turquoise (hope I’m spelling all these exotic words right) and used the same method with it. It toned down the color on it as well. I just thought I’d pass along the info just in case you ever get any questions in which you could use it. The knobs are a big hit with my family and friends, and it’s so good to get rid of all that shiny brass! Ugh! Please think of me if you come across a bronze egg shaped door knob set. Thanks, Dana”
