Description

The listing, 10 Yen & 1 Yen Japanese Coins has ended.

Here up for bids are (2) 10 Yen and 1 Yen Japanese coins in circulated condition. I do not read Asian languages. They are not cleaned so therefore they retain their original patina. All 3 of the coins will come together.

If there are any questions please feel free to ask and I will try to assist as much as possible. With help from the fans in the comments I have found that the year of mint for these coins were from the Showa Era, the 10 Yen coins minted in 1944 and 1 Yen coin from the year 1949 .
As has been said in the comments, the 2nd 10 Yen coin is reeded along the edges (I am not sure as to year but being told it may be from the years of 1952-53). The 1 st (10) Yen coin is being said to be between the years of 1974-75 and the 1 Yen coin maybe from 1949-50.
Thank you for watching and good luck to all those bidding. Also added more detailed pictures of the coins. GIN will receive an extra random coin from my box.

Thank you VERY much for that information, I have scoured the internet and were having the hardest time identifying them. After so many hours I gave up. You are a tremendous help and I will change the title of the auction now.

Wait my bad. The one yen coin is also from Showa. I read the Kanji wrong.

It's 1949 coin.

Okay, thanks, should I take more detailed and closer pictures of each individual coin ? I have one more coin I can not identify as well that I have been contemplating on putting up on Listia but I was afraid to get rid of a coin that was too old.

Not to argue or disagree but using this reference http://worldcoingallery.com/countries/Japanese.htm
here is what I calculate the dates to be.

These are Japanese Coins and the date can be calculated by first know the two characters on each side of the '+' sign and reading them right to left. 49, 27(dirty 10 yen) for the 10 yens and 24 for the 1 yen.

Once you have the number you have to add it to the Emperor Era which is this case is Hirohito (or Showa) which started in 1926 (1) through 1989(64).

Therefore you have a 1953 10 Yen (dirty) 1975 10 Yen and a 1950 1 yen. (Disclaimer: Actual dates may be off 1 year. )

From there I can probably say that the Dirty 10 Yen has a reeded Edge (like a dime) and the other 10 yen is smooth. They are catalogue y73 and y73a respectively while the 1 yen is y70 (They only minted these between 1948-1950).

O.k. I double check everything because some of what I have disagrees with what was previously posted. I am not an expert just a hobbyist but I listed a link you can use to see where I got my information from. Best of Luck to bidders and the seller a like.

Thank you very much for that explanation, You are absolutely correct about the "dirty" 10 yen being reeded and the other being smooth on the edges. I went to the site and I am confused myself. I don't collect coins so it boggles me even as I am trying to read it myself and figure out the instructions (LOL).

O.k checked a second reference. I am off a year so just subtract one year from each date. The numbers of 27, 49 and 24 though are correct.

I will put both of these estimates in the description because I can't read any of it to be honest and I am not for sure what it is. That is why I am asking for help in identifying them. Thanks a lot for the info and good luck to you

Okay, thanks a lot, I knew I saw the 10 but didn't know if they were yen or not. Thank you very much. Do you know how to tell the date on these ?
