The listing, 1911 VINTAGE VICTOR PAN TRAP OVER 100 YEARS OLD (HAD BEEN USED FOR MUSKRAT TRAP LINE) has ended.

NO GIN ON THIS TRAP. I thought I sold the last one, but I found this one in the corner of my shed with a couple of short handles

9 1/2" 5" is handle. Chain 18", Pan 2". I use to keep these traps free of rust by boiling walnut husks in a large barrel over a fire and dipping the traps in the mix. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REMOVE RUST FROM THIS TRAP, TAKE A PAN WITH HALF VINEGAR, HALF WATER, DEEP ENOUGH TO COVER THE TRAP. KEEP IT IN THE MIX OVERNIGHT. TAKE IT OUT (I USE THE DRIVEWAY) AND SPRAY IT OFF & CLEAN IT. IT WILL BE A THICK OILY BLACK SUBSTANCE.The Victor brand of traps were made in two models from 1886 to 1889. The first model featured a cast pan and shank dogless and a short latch trigger type in cast pan and shank and a riveted pan in smaller sizes. The second model had small riveted pans on a flat and sideways type post. The pans were stamped Kenwood, Oneida and Oneida Community, N.Y
The hump cross model was used after 1907 and the "V" was cut into the pans after 1910. The #91 and #91 1/2 Victor was used to replace that size in the Newhouse line. Later, the 20 series was made to replace the 91 type. All of these changes were to cut production costs, NOT to make a better trap. The Victor Giant was made with several changes in jaw style and pan lettering.

No, It's not too terribly heavy. Use to put a strap through the ring at the end of the chain to carry several of them to set the muskrat trap line. They had a "jump trap" that was very short with no handle, and also a trap with a handle 7" long. Most people want these original. When my hands would get so cold and frigid I would stand on the trap to set it, but I could do it by hand when I was in my early teens. Whoever wins this trap should spray some WD-40 on the handle where is meets the trap itself and goes down to draw it open. This will make it very simple to set yet leave the rust on it. I could probably carry 20 or so. You stop often enough to set one that you are able to put them down while you are setting the one in the creek or the pond.

**** MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS TRAP **** You can read the writing on this pan, and I have cut my name and address tag off of the chain. It identified to other trappers it was my line. Thank you for viewing. Jo

Thank you. It is definitely for smaller animals. I have caught a bobcat in one that was not good. Sometimes opossums just walking up the creek. You should check with your state. These are so old they have been outlawed in some states. A lot of people like to hang them from the ceiling or their wall.

Outlawed for quite a while in many states. I have some hanging from the ceiling on a bicycle hook. Only one individual i sold to chose to clean their trap. I did one to see how well the process worked. After spraying the trap and the bucket out well, the only thing i had that really worked to clean the black residue that was left was Bon Ami. Some states do not carry it. It is like powdered "Comet" in a can, with the exception that it is white in color, and will not scratch a surface. Thank you for viewing my auction. DCM123 I appreciate you mentioning the outlawing of these traps for use again in many states. Now this type of trapping is considered unusually cruel with the changes that have been made in capturing many animals, and also with the changes in the world today there is not the need for furs for trade or for clothing and warmth and killing for food as well as there use to be.
