Description

The listing, Autobiography Convent Life & Abuse 1870's has ended.

Where do I start with a book, an autobiography, like this. Many know of the abuses in the Catholic church, but seeing them SO far back in time is quite an exclamation point of life. Edith O'Gorman, a young Irish girl decided on a life in a convent at a young age. This book starts with that decision and she recounts her life changes in the convent and after. The table of contents shown and also intro page give you an idea of the issues and abuse she suffered. She was born in 1842 and the book published in 1871, of course a first edition. It is called "The Trials and Persecutions of Edith O'Gorman of St Joseph's Convent". And it is what it says...personally I had to stop reading it part way in as I cannot stand abuse of anyone, never mind women. But- all said, the book is an antique, an autobiography , and a first edition..Her picture had been cut out of a piece of paper, an ad perhaps, or a photo and glued into the book as shown. It is OLD too! At 144 years of age the book has seen better days and has traveled and been read. Completely in tact, no pages missing except the free end papers front and back. Lots of yellowing with age and pages are fragile.
A book for many collectors, editors, writers, authors, story tellers. Historically it's another mind blower! Such an incredible woman to write her experiences and publish them too! Brave only touches part of her.
Hard cover book of 264 pages. Now it is sealed in protective wrap for the winner.

amazing to think all they are accountable for the number 13 black cats and so on the closet of the church who knew could hold so many skelatons and still adding on and yet they are still first to cast the first stone. SHAME ON THEM. GOD BLESS THE SOULS OF THOSE WHO WENT UN NOTICED but what a fascinating collectors item and read. I in the age of technology even my teens prefer books.
