does it say italy any where? if it did it would be a real cameo made from a shell only found in italy! most real cameos were ,and are still made at the cameo factory in naples, italy and are stamped!others are made from plastic!
no it doesnt its a antique this are worth alot but im tryig to give someone a option to be able to have this valuable brooch and add it to their collection.
Something is not right here. My daughter mentioned that the first picture is done professionally and the second and third are not. I really hope that this is honest and not taking advantage of a buyer. The two brooches are not the same and the first one is a real cameo from Italy. The other is not. Not sure what has happened but I know enough that a jeweler would not cut down anything or change the piece. They are cleaned with toothpaste and a soft toothbrush.
I will be requesting my credits back if I win this auction. After researching I see that the seller is falsely representing something and after checking her listia page I see that a few buyers said to "beware of this seller" and "stay away from this seller" and "this seller will lie"
Karen is right. The frame is not the same at all. I collect these and you can see the fine detail in the frame is totally different. The jeweler is a fraud. I would take the pictures and contact someone. That's theft. The first one is real and they swapped it out for a copy. You would not trim one that is old and authentic. What a shame because you have a beautiful piece.
if u took ur cameo to jeweler looking like first picture and what u got back was the cameo in second picture.......they are definitely not the same cameo or metalwork!!!!! even tho u r auctioning it here i would definitely go back w these pictures and find out what happened!!!
uh oh! I should have read all comments first....after looking at the pictures it is definitely not the same brooch...oh my gosh! have I been hoodwinked?
This is definitely the same picture that is featured at the above site all the way down to the exact placing of the brooch on the patterned paper underneath......shame, shame, shame....
I think maybe the jeweler pulled one on you. The frame is completely different. Even if they trimmed it down it wouldn't have changed the design and it's now wider at the sides. It also looks like a different cameo head because there are subtle differences in the hair and bow. I'd take the pictures back to the jeweler if I were you and ask them to explain. I bet yours was real and they swapped it out with a less expensive copy. Go back with your proof! What they did just isn't right!
wow, you are getting a hardtime from folks on this one. The info you have is the info you have. simple enough. they either want it or they don't. It is a beautiful piece of jewelery, Thanks for sharing it with us!! would love to get in on this one, but my credits wont be in yet :( really sorry to miss this!! fanned and watching!!
you can clean them at home with ammonia and they will look nice and clean and new ! a small real cameo say 1/2 inch ,goes for around $27 dollars depending if its gold or real silver, could make it $50-$100 more in value! a 2 inch cameo is about 5x the value ! I use to go to the cameo factory in naples, and watch them hand carve the small pieces of shell that they make cameos out of! not like the plastic ones that are being sold !
