This is a new stylish magnifying lamp for low vision circumstances, or artisan/hobbyists. It was purchased at the Sharper Image and the original plastic packaging still surrounds the lamp, but the original box was lost. It was never used, except once to turn it on and try it out, which worked fine but was deemed unsuitable for the purpose purchased (stamp dealing).

Here is a description I could find on the web. It sells still for $80 although the Sharper Image no longer carries it:
