The listing, Colonial St.Augustine dug Spanish Copper has ended.
I aquired a few of these some years ago from a guy I detected with in Florida. They were dug in the St. Augustine area. St. Augustine is the oldest Spanish settlement in what is now the U.S. This Maravedis copper cob coin likely dates to late 16th century or early 17th century. These coins were crudely struck (hammered). They were the common currency used for daily monetary transactions of the colonists and soldiers. This is the same type of coinage that was found at the legendary Oak Island Treasure pit (though I heard speculation that it was planted there to perpetuate the myth and encourage further exploration).
