In PALOOKA, Jimmy is fight manager Knobby Walsh opposite Stuart Erwin as 1930's comic strip character Joe Palooka. Other cast members include Lupe Velez (MEXICAN SPITFIRE - 1940), Robert Armstrong (KING KONG - 1933), Thelma Todd (THE MALTESE FALCON - 1931), and Jimmy Cagney's kid brother, William. (Note: After this initial outing, Joe Palooka became a series of 19 films. Shemp Howard portrayed Knobby in 7 of these. James Gleason and Leon Errol also played Joe's manager.

THE GREAT RUPERT is a charming family Christmas time movie about what had to be the smartest squirrel of all time. George Pal quite effectively animated Jimmy's furry little friend, even making him dance. Other highlights of this cute picture include Durante's versions of a few Xmas songs.
