I don't understand that when I make a bid and confirm it, someone already bids higher than in do.

That is because they have reserved a higher bid and the system automatically bids for them. Say I look at an auction and its up to 499. I bid 5000, then the computer is gonna keep bidding for me every time someone else bids up to that 5000 highest bid I confirmed.

You just bid the highest you are willing to go. It will increase the bid each time someone else bids against you until it reaches your set amount. Then it stops bidding.
