We all like to be liked, we all want acceptance from our family, peers, colleagues, and social circle - this is natural, and it is a form of “feedback” and of course the views of others do ultimately end up shaping our own self perceptions too.
Like anything, thinking like this in moderation is a good thing - it actually keeps us integrated with society and helps us to socialise as we care about those around us and care for their opinions.
