Description

The listing, Beautiful Cross Pendant. Very interesting piece. Please Read!!!! has ended.

This pendant is amazing. Its big and beautiful. I am listing it as costume. It is marked 14k on the bail and on the back at the bottom. It seems very old. I have had it tested 2 times at 2 different places. Both places were un sure of what it is made of? One thought it might be gold. But the other was unsure. It smoked when the acid hit it. Could have smoked because it is very tarnished. Needs to be cleaned. This is not a perfect piece. It has tarnish and is bent and is scratched. All adds to its beauty thou. So it is in used condition, as is, costume piece. Please look at the pictures carefully. The front piece seems to be copper, and the cross and bail is a gold tarnished color.
This is as is.

Hi just a little information. Gold can not tarnish as the other listian stated above but it can patina which silver and copper can do as well. On the acid if they did a 24k strength bottle testing it would eat at the 14k being that its to strong. So its hard to say with the acid. Normally if an acid test is done with the proper strength to carat testing gold will not dissolve or even smoke. So if you can have someone test your 14k piece with a 10k acid solution and it doesn't smoke or eat it its more than likely real.

Awesome!!! Thanks for the info. :) I will be honest it has been driving me crazy to know if this is real or not. lol. But since it is posted (costume) the winner will have to have it tested again if they choose to. :) As for me. Its just not worth the drive. I live around 20 miles give or take to the nearest jewelers. :) I realy need to invest in my own acid testing kit. :) One of these days. lol

OK so old gold does tarnish! And if it's smoking it's probably old Russian gold they mix it with brass. I own a jewelry store... just saying

Thank you. :) I agree. I remember, I once had a old 18k gold brooch that looked dirty/ tarnished / and or patina and it also smoked when the acid hit it. It ended up being real. This piece has been very tricky to tell. lol :) That is cool info thou I never know they mixed gold with brass. Sounds neet. I will for sure keep on looking for those neat little pieces that no one wants. I have found some pretty interesting things. :)

By the way to people saying gold doesn't tarnish... why do they make gold cleaner and tarnishing cloth... because gold tarnishes and also needs polishing

This might be helpful in figuring out what metal it is. Gold doesn't tarnish only silver, brass, copper(which turns green) and a few others. This is a pretty piece no matter what material it is made of

I use to think that to, I did some research on the web and found some info that said gold can tarnish. Depending on what kind of metal it is mixed with and how long the piece has been sitting. Not saying this is gold (I have no idea what this is.). But I thought that was interesting. And that is why I had it tested. I didn't understand why it is marked 14k in two places and it is tarnished. This piece has been on a journey of sorts. lol Just trying to figure it out. I like to research things I couldn't even find the maker for this one on the web. I usaly look at images on the web to see if I can pull some up that matches I have not been able to find any like this. So I gave up. And decided to post it on here. As a costume piece. It is very pretty. Would make a great piece for a collector.:) Or for someone that likes to research things. :)

Its a little heavy. But every one is different on the weight they like. I like to ware lighter pieces to. I can only guess the weight I am going to say between 8 and 10 grams. I realy don't know thou. I have a silver bracelet that is 17 grams and it is a little lighter then it. Hope that helps. :)

And what color are the stones in those earrings? They look like may be purple, is what I am seeing from the pictures, as the photo is kind of dark!

But omg, absolutely in love with those earrings! They look like they are so vintage! Possibly even antique jewelry!

If you could get back to me with the color of the stones inside of the earrings, and if they are Amethyst, or Topaz, or another precious gemstone, it would be so very much appreciated!

Have a Great Rest of Your Day and Hope to Hear From You Soon,
Brandi

By the way you should never put the acid on the piece itself. You rub it on a stone then apply acid to the stone. Just FYI ....

If its china gold then thats why even if its marked 14k it will still tarnish.-based on my experience.

Thanks for the info. :) I don't see a china hallmark on it. :)

You said makers mark? If you are talking about the ORO mark on the back that Spanish or swahili transaction in English is gold... it's not a makers hallmark

I wish I had it here to test it there are certain trick with the acids that a lot of people don't know. Like you can test silver with 18k acid if it turns blue it's silver

I feel ya. Im gonna ask the Hubby to buy me a testing kit. I get interesting pieces a lot. I would like to test my self. It would save me money on the drive here and there. For my own collection. A acid kit would be a great tool to have. :) Thank you for the info. I didn't know you could test silver like that. :) I have some silver I need tested for my scrap. Those nice unmarked questional pieces. So hoping Hubby will get me one. :)

Does a magnet stick to it.
Sep 28th, 2015 at 6:25:33 PM PDT by

It doesn't pull to my magnet at all. I do not have a jewelers magnet thou. The 2 places I took it to. It must not have stuck to there magnet, I don't think they test on things that stick or pull.
