Description

The listing, Used but Presumably Still Working Polaroid Camera, Case and 2 Packs of Out of Date Film-Free Ship has ended.

This is a charity auction for a presumably still working Polaroid Impulse AF camera. It is gray unlike this semi-stock photos from Flickr by Tommy Toucan (http://www.flickr.com/photos/74693095@N00/2300522889) but it's the same model and is quite clean and attractive.

It'll come with a very nice padded case and two packs of 10 exposure 600 film that is way out of date (think 1996). The second photo shows a gallery of Flickr photos from an experiment by Justin McLean (http://www.flickr.com/photos/justinmclean/sets/717505/) with way out of date Polaroid Film. Apparently sometimes way out of date Polaroid film doesn't work at all, but sometimes you can turn it into an art project like Justin did.

I can't check if the camera works because I don't know how to change the batteries. AF by the way apparently stands for Auto-Focus.

Free US shipping. No international shipping.

Yeah, these are going to be very strange instant results with the expired film :- O

At the risk of sounding slightly out of date myself--can you still buy batteries and film for this camera--I think it is great looking but I know nothing about them--but I do know it is something I would like to bid on

No, that is a very good question, I thought Polaroid announced they were going to start making film again, but apparently I was mistaken. On the other hand there are two teams working togethor to restart Polarid film production in mid-2010. You can view one of the outfit's website here: http://www.the-impossible-project.com/. I don't know if they are aiming at making 600 film. You can also buy film which will expire soon from some scalpers on Amazon (it was made last year I think and just barely in date - read the negative reviews...).

Apparently what's going on is a licensee of Polaroid's, Summit Global Group, is working with the Impossible Project so Polaroid has a hand in it, they are granting a license to the company Summit to make the cameras again. The impossible project apparently bought the 100 million dollars worth of manufacturing equipment from Polaroid to make the film again. The assembly line is running and I think they are still working out the kinks of making consumer grade stock again.

Oh by the way just so people don't have too much of a false hope, apparently the battery power is strange but true it seems, built into every single film piece. So the problem is the unopened film that is coming with this lot's batteries might be dead :-(. Big bummer.

Anyway it looks like the cheapest Polaroid you can buy that is still not expired (barely that is) is about $33 for 10 exposures from eBay. I think this lot on eBay will take premium photos and is priced to sell: http://cgi.ebay.com/Polaroid-Platinum-600-Film-10-Exposures-Dated-07-00_W0QQitemZ230403939523QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item35a5251cc3

Here's another important save Polaroid site: http://www.savepolaroid.com/. So apparently it's Polaroid behind everything, producing the new cameras (I guess through a licensee; which may have been the way they were doing it before anyway) and commissioning the impossible project to make the film.

OK now we are getting somewhere. Here's where you can get good film for this camera: http://www.polapremium.com/shop/film/600/fi_600_1_1009_600

It costs $21 yeah but $25 in shipping...Anyway, you are better guaranteed good film because this company is in partnership with Polaroid.

Note the film expired on 09/2009 which they tell you up front, but still might not be that bad.

Yeah I never was a fan, but they are coming back. Also Polaroid makes digital instant cameras which are really coming down in price.

This suggests 600 film is one of the styles that will be restarted in 2010.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SX-70

They will start first with black and white film.
