something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. I use: http://www.pcgs.com/error.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/prices/default.aspx to put a value to my coins.
Have 2005 redbook, need to update. Thanks for all your info. I don't know what a lacquered coin would look like. I'll take it by a local coin shop tomorrow and let you know what he says.
Went to my local coin shop and asked the man if he thought the coin had been cleaned or lacquered. He said he would evaluate it for 5 dollars. Needless to say, I didn't pay him.
I didn't see any lacquer with my 20x magnifier, though I'm not sure what exactly it would look like. I'll have to offer to accept returns for refund and hope that that is satisfactory.
Fanned you and watching..thanks so much for sharing... Come by and check my International Banknotes 43 of them..crisp and never used..Plus 2 brand new Hello Kitty handbags...thanks...
Matthew, NatureLovinPagan had been going around to a lot of peoples auctions claiming that they are the know all of every coin. Please, for your own sake, don't listen to them. They may be right on the cleaning of the coin but I highly doubt it. It can easily be a coin that didn't get much wear. Hope this helps.
I think he's just trying to help. It's hard to make judgements from scanned images. I always consider a coin a grade lower or more when I'm buying from a picture. Even though it may be even better. It's a hard call to make.
Scanning coins can make them look weird because of how the light reflects off the coin. I find silvery coins scan better. The scan didn't capture the liberty too well on this coin. It's a lot clearer in actuality.
