Description

The listing, The Square and Compasses Masonic Ring has ended.

The symbols of the square and compasses denote several Masonic ideologies, but historically... somewhat analogous (like) to Boaz and Jachin, they symbolize 2 triangles, one pointing upward into the Heavens toward our Creator, and one pointing downward toward Earth ...and to man, our Creator's creation.
I'm not exactly sure of white size this ring is. I have big fingers (9-10) and it feels really comfortable.
The other thing that i'm not sure of is the metal used. I always thought it was gold (it feels like gold), but i cannot find a hallmark on the band.

beautiful ring regardless of the metal, the Masonic history is a fascinating part of American history, with most of our founding fathers being Masons. almost all of the great architecture and monuments were built by the masons!

thanks James for all the info! I always aspired to join the fraternity myself, being stone mason & tile setter for a good part of my life. Also after researching the history of the Masons! Wasn't meant to be! I would just tell people it was my uncles or something, as you've explained Mason are a benevolent fraternity, and only if someone were misrepresenting their good name to cause ill to others would they take issue! God bless & Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Well what i think he is saying is ... Your Honestly not suppose to bear the ring or symbol of a Travler Until you reach the 3rd degree of Master Mason. Its felt that if you wanna wear the symbol then you need to earn the right too. Even when a man becomes a Freemason he does not yet have the right to bear the ring until he rises to the 3rd degree. BUT if your a Mason another Mason can almost always spot another regardless of wearing a ring, sticker on car,hat etc. Ive never in my life been approached by a fellow Brother because im wearing the ring and they say "PROOVE YOURSELF" LOL no, its a very simple hand shake maybe a gesture , maybe a "hey how ya doing with a CERTAIN question . Its either you are or your Not! Its not like any Brother Mason would bring harm or intimidate someone cause they have the symbol, but more so educate them on why we would rather if you are interested in such thing you should seek enlightenment on the subject . Telling her to "BE CAREFUL"? really guy?

Now on another Note:LOL... Someone mention the "G" It depends on who you ask, you will get different answers.
Just a little info, The Letter G started being used later on as The Freemasons grew. In many country's they only use the simple Square and Compass.
The Freemasons have always had conspiracy Theories put out about them , and most of those if not all are people who have NO TRUE idea of the brotherhood and what it stands for but only the outlandish lies.
Freemasons as mention somewhere on here Be live in the The Grand Architect of the Universe. But also NO ONE is restricted to 1 religion in the brotherhood. As long as one believes in a GOD that is what matters. Freemasonry itself is not a Religion. But a brotherhood of Freethinkers and Men seeking Enlightenment in their Journey.

Always Glade to speak on forums to help give some enlightenment to people and also CORRECT what another made out to be wrong when it need be.

Sorry for the long winded Post.

Doesn't gold keep its luster ? I mean people find gold in the ocean and after 100s of years it still looks as good as it did when it was new. I've seen these in brass but no matter what it's made of it's a great ring because of what it stands for. My dad was a Mason also and very proud of it. Good luck with your auction.

This depends on who you ask...there has been so much written about that G. I like this one ~“The Letter “G,” which ornaments the Mason’s Lodge, is not only expressive of the name of the Grand Architect of the Universe, but also denotes the science of Geometry, so necessary to artists. But the adoption of it by Masons implies no more than their respect for those inventions which demonstrate to the world the power, the wisdom and the beneficence of the Almighty Builder in the works of creation.”

I'm not understanding you... lat night i was rubbing the ring with a soft "tarish resistant" cloth. The cloth and my fingertips got blackish...i was afraid i had rubbed off some of the rings color. -my jack just looked it over and said that i had only cleaned it a bit..that it looked better. I'll take a photo of it now.

Regardless if its Gold or not, Its a Beautiful Masonic ring! My Grandfather wore 1 just like it almost. I HIGHLY doubt its Brass though! If this was his 1st Masonic ring by chance bought& presented after he made it to the 3rd degree and could then bear the ring by then being a Master Mason I feel it is for sure real Gold.

Im sure this ring Meant Alot to your Father if u remember him wearing it most of the time.

GoodLuck on your auction! Watching Closely!

I don't think it's heavy enough for brass...and the green is very 'undecided'... but i don't know...so all guesses are good!

I believe that this piece is actually 10 karat gold for a few reasons.. the signet style of the top and shoulders is classic American design and was very common in 10k. The luster is right on for 10k, if it were copper with that amount of wear on it there would be very prominent green all over the piece. I believe the green that is visible in the photo is simply old polishing compound, dirt, or body oil, etc caught in a porous spot in the metal. It's very common for antique 10k pieces to be unmarked, as it was considered gold for the "lower class". Very cool piece regardless, I think you should get a gram weight on it.
Nov 18th, 2015 at 10:40:21 AM PST by
Original
Awesome! It really looks and feels like 10k...that soft yellow look and feel..there's a "softness" to the band...not the 'hard cold metal' feeling.
Thank you so much! It's probably early 1950's, and my dad did often wear 10k gold ~Unless Jack brought him gold from italy.
