Description

The listing, Real Old Liberty U.S.A. Gold Coin has ended.

I was not able to take a real close look at the coin and not sure if it is real gold, and it is 3/8 in in Dia, but it has the letters MCMVI instead of a date and that stands for 1906. I was told it might be a $20.00 24 K gold coin, but judge for yourself before placing your bid.

Always research a valuable coin before listing, china has flooded the market with fakes and the FBI are very busy, but they are watching, good luck!

jtsi45 is correct, he knows his coins, its a gold plated replica, really no mystery, you can tell looking at it with bad eyes that the plating is rubbing off! good luck with it!

Franklin Mint put out miniture replicas of 1908 St Gaudin $20 gold coins out several years ago. Those were gold plated. This looks to be one of those.

just checked mine, it clearly says 1/10 oz .999 fine gold on the eagle side.
this one doesn't seem to say that anywhere.

I see what looks like corrosion on the coin. Gold does not corrode. Hence It can't be gold.

Fanned you:

An update to the auction by putting up some better photos might bring you more credits. If you are able to add any photos- placing a ruler under the edge of the coin will help in determining whether it is a miniature (22k gold) or real St Gaudens $20 gold piece. If what you say is true that it is approximately 3/8" in diamater, then it is likely a miniature, as the $20 St Gaudens is 34mm in diameter which is 1.335 inches. Based on your facts it would be a miniature. If you are in doubt as a seller, weighing the coin may help you out in your future auctions. Like Joe185 said, the Franklin Mint made a lot of the miniatures several years ago. Since the quality is not very good, the value is what you are willing to pay. Big difference between plated and real gold.

For some information about the real St Gaudens $20 gold, checkout some information at
https://www.goldline.com/product-catalog/20-saint-gaudens-gold-coin

Some suggestions for future use: You might consider including in your title, when you know absolutely the authenticity of the coin, state that the coin is authentic. IE: Title: Authentic 1907 $20 St Gaudens coin. Include in your description that the coin has been checked by a reputable dealer.

Your disclaimer for this auction- keeps you out of trouble. As you make no claims as to it's authenticity.

Good luck with this auction and all future ones.

I tried to get a better pic with my camera but it came out the same. I thank you for all this info on my coin. I was not able to see any marks on the back side of the coin that gave a mark like 24K but my eyes are not that good.

3/8" is way too small for a $20 gold piece so I would say this is a collectors miniature as the design is very crude

Fake ; not a real US coin. It may be gold or gold plated but who knows
Jan 4th, 2016 at 11:13:20 AM PST by

I don't know if it is a fake and that's why I tell people to judge it for them self but it was attached to a small info card the said it was a $20.00 gold coin and I had my doubts but I bought all these coins at an Estate sale and the box was loaded with about 300 coins
