I agree with you Natahoa!! That lady above is wrong. You are not begin rude at all! I get a lot of rude and mean comments on my auctions as well. I just block them. I don't believe your wording has anything to do with the outcome of your auction. I had my best auction ever, and I used those words. I got a lot of mean and nasty comments, I just blocked them.

That lady that commented above doesn't even know how to use proper spelling or grammar. Don't pay her any attention. I love your auctions and agree. Not more fan begging! And to that lady above... begging IS being like a dog. ;)

Well, LOL ... I try not to criticize because to some people, clearly this is business as usual. It's the Facebook syndrome ... adding as many people as you possibly can as fans or friends just 'cause .... And I try to explain to people why I don't like it, I mean, when you fan someone you are basically giving them your stamp of approval, and I know a lot of people look up to me on Listia so I don't want to give wrong impressions, good or bad, of anyone (if I can help it ... but I do have my bad-girl days).

So, I'm just hoping my explanation gave her pause and made her think just a little about what it means to fan someone--bring a little sanity to the issue with at least one Listia member (maybe it will spread like wildfire or the flu).

you know you had an auction end last nght which was a 21 day auction that really didnt go that welll anyother listia had an auction for the same beads her auction ended high i know cause i won it i think your are not going so well cause of this hole fan thing i think it is very rude for you to tell people to stop begging there not dogs if you dont want to fan someone then keep it to your self dont afend people i dnt mean to disrespect you in any way i think your auction is great but i think you would get more bids if you droppd that comment of begging

I hear you, and I know a lot of people don't like the fact that I include that wording in my listings. Here's the background ... back when Listia started the "fan" thing I got a ZILLION comments, people basically demanding to be fanned ... I fanned you, fan me back. This always made me uncomfortable because I don't want to fan someone that turns out to be a real jerk, because as you know, Listia draws them like flies ...

I've also had people tell me stories like "I had a problem with this seller but I noticed you are a fan of theirs so I figured it must be me." So, you see, by becoming someone's fan, I am basically telling the world that I think they are safe to deal with, and a good person. So, I don't fan anyone unless I have a reason to do so ... just writing a lot of fan "blank checks" is a very bad way to do business.

It apparently is still quite the fashion to ask everyone on Listia to fan you, and it irritates me to such an extent that I sometimes block people who believe that I would fan them when I don't know them or anything about them. It's just rude.

So, I do appreciate your comment but I'm holding firm on my policy. I just don't like it when people ask me to fan them, it's like panhandlers standing on the streetcorner asking for money ... just very low rent IMO.

Yes people really do look up to Nancy, and she sticks out as someone you can trust right away. Shortly after I joined I looked her up for advice regarding an issue that happened with another member. Nancy had super great advice, and i was very thankful.

As long as people have respect, consideration, and treat people the way they'd like to be treated, and abide by the rules, there shouldn't be problems. As soon as I see someone that is causing trouble or problems and not necessarily with me, I block them right away. I don't want them stumbling across my auctions, and I do not want to come across theirs.

I have noticed in the short time that I have been a member that there is alot of trouble makers out there. Also alot of people are rude, and are kind of being ignorant with me, just because I am Canadian.

I guess some sellers have had a problem or two with Canadians, and automatically think that I would be trouble as well. I am absolutely certain that there are problems within the US from seller to winner, just like there would be in Canada. Well there won't be any fanning going on there. Plus anyone who doesn't ship to Canada gets blocked. I don't want to hear their rude comments again.

Plus what is the big deal about shipping to Canada anyway? I have no problem shipping to the US? It is simple, as simple as shipping within Canada, but many sellers in the US make it seem like it is the worst problem and trouble for them. I think something needs to be done about this. Maybe a blog to prove or show sellers that it is easier than they think to ship across the border.

Sorry Nancy, it just seemed other members were getting things off their chests, so I had to follow suit. LOL Whatever right? LOL Anyway looking forward to your response. Take care and have a great weekend : )

Kim, you are MORE than welcome to say anything you like. Often, posting comments like this can lead to very interesting discussions. But, if you want to get a discussion rolling about shipping to Canada, try posting a shorter comment to encourage others to discuss. I suggest you post your comment on one of my auctions that doesn't end for a while, though.

What a nice compliment, thanks so much Kelly! You are correct, I put a TON of time and thought into Listia. Really, I have way too many listings running and managing it can get crazy sometimes, but I feel GUILTY if I don't have all my wonderful stuff listed. It's a disease I think ... LOL

I'm with you Nancy on wearing alot of black in the winter months. I love your new beads. My kids bought me a $100 gift certificate from a silver store in Ottawa for my birthday. They sell alot of Pandora items at that store. I love silver, and my kids know it. LOL. Anyway I would like to know if I buy an authentic Pandora bracelet if your beads will fit on it? I need to use the gift certificate, and thought of buying the bracelet, but getting your beads instead of the authentic Pandora beads. They are honestly so expensive. Your beads are beautiful and just as nice. The only time I would buy Pandora beads is for the solid silver ones.

When I first joined Listia near the end of September I noticed alot of people saying I fanned you. I was still learning and had no idea what the heck they meant by that. Then I caught on and realized what the fanning was all about. I have never begged for one fan, and when people say I fanned you, I just say nothing. OK you fanned me, so that means you like me or my listing right? I noticed people seemed to be pretty pushy about. If I like the listing, etc I will fan back on my own, not because someone fanned me and wants me to do the same in return. This is all before I met Nancy, and read her description in her listings. After I read your descriptions and what you had to say about fanning, I felt that you were on the same wave length as me.

Yes, my beads should fit on a Pandora or any other name brand bracelet. I don't have any of those so I haven't checked, but as far as I know they are all interchangeable.

The fanning thing ... Listia started it maybe six months ago (I don't remember exactly) but it quickly became a huge trend to try to get as many fans as possible by whatever means possible! To me, becoming someone's fan tells the rest of the world that I trust this person and insinuates I've done business with them. I just got really sick of responding to hundreds of comments from people saying they fanned me, so I should fan them. (I guess they want the badge or something).

That's why I started my boilerplate paragraph and a LOT of people agree with me, of course. I really don't care how many fans I have, it doesn't affect my success on Listia in any way. People use fanning for a variety of purposes, to be able to quickly find someone they've fanned, for example (just click on their photo). I generally only fan when I've had a successful purchase from a seller--that way, if I stumble upon another one of their listings and I'm already a fan, I know I've bought something from them in the past and been happy. If I fanned everyone who asked me, I wouldn't have the benefit of knowing I fanned them because I trust them.

I try to remember to fan my buyers too, I just don't do it automatically, not because I don't like them but only because I have so many other things to do to keep up with Listia! I figure shipping to them quickly is more important than fanning them ...LOL

I have had a couple people tell me it's rude and that they unfanned me bc of having it in my listings. I'm like I don't care it's ridiculous to beg for a fan. I fan people I buy from regularly or sell to often. And Nancy, dangle Euro charms... I wanna list some but I don't know the credit ways to go about a tiered one. Like if I have 5 what should I do the gin for and what increments of credits should I include 2 and so on? Thanks.

Me too, but that's their problem. Clearly, they have not thought about the consequences of giving their approval to people they don't know anything about by fanning them. No brain no pain I guess.

Well, I try to price things low enough to sell, but high enough to ensure I am getting enough credits to make it worth what I paid for them, and the shipping I will pay to send them. It kind of depends on what you paid for them. I put higher GIN prices and tiers for the beads that cost more to buy. In my case, if I have the same item listed twice .. one with GIN and one without, I try to make sure the pricing is about the same on both.

Keep in mind also that most people probably only want a few. I'm not sure everyone wants to have a ton of dangles on a single bracelet, although some people might like that. A listing for five of them might be too many to attract a lot of buyers, three might be better. I think I have my dangles listed for two GIN, one if they don't end GIN or at similar tiers if they are not listed GIN. You just sort of need to figure out a pricing strategy that is low enough to attract bids, but high enough to make it worthwhile for you.

LOL ... she's just a little confused. Kim joined only recently and the first thing she did was to offer a seller to buy the item (i.e. she asked them to take it off Listia). She did that in comments, and a bunch of other people gave her a hard time. So she wrote and asked me what she did wrong. Nothing really, just people being a-holes. I wish people would check to see if someone is a newbie before they get on their case, I try to remember to do that before I react when someone annoys me

Wow Nancy and Morgan I just love you. I sent Morgan a reply to a message she sent and I am waiting on that reply to other questions I had. There is this bracelet I want so bad and the auction is going to be finished very soon. The auction will be finished in 35 minutes and it is at 3181 right now. I only have 4180 credits left today. I won't win it I just know it. This bracelet is so nice, but I am not going to buy more credits from Listia for it. I spent enough on them.
Nov 13th, 2011 at 4:15:12 PM PST by

Yup, well, live and learn, trust me we all have to do that! The next time you see something you want try offering a gift card that will end before the item you want. If you have the money to spend on Listia credits, spend them on a gift card instead. Offer a Walmart or Amazon or ebay -- offer a choice. If you use a reasonable GIN price you might sell it quite quickly. If you want to see what I've been paying for gift cards lately, just look at my feedback, you'll see a bunch of them. \

And be SURE to let me know if you list a gift card, just be sure to offer a US gift card (for example, Amazon offers both Canadian and US gift cards). I won a Canadian Amazon gift card a while ago, just wasn't paying attention. Now I have $6 balance with Amazon.ca that I may never use! ... see we ALL make silly mistakes!

Yes. Try to understand that once something is listed, the seller is obligated to maintain the listing until it ends. Obviously, they can end it if they have no bids, but generally people intend to sell them on Listia once they list an item.

That bracelet I mentioned, I wouldn't have to offer a gift card for it instead of credits before a bid was put on it?
Nov 13th, 2011 at 4:26:16 PM PST by

Nonononono .... no, don't offer to buy stuff people have listed. Just get some credits and win them! Really, it makes people suspicious when that happens. You can offer a gift card at any time and buy it AFTER the person wins it, send the code to them on the listing correspondence. If they want the card sent to them, you'll have to put postage on it and send it. But you CAN specify that it will be delivered electronically only, if you don't want to spend the money to send it to the US.

Okay, good! Trust me, you'll find other bracelets you want on Listia. Once something ends at a lot of credits, you'll probably see someone else list something similar. Just search for it during the next few days.

Hi, I am a newbie here and I was reading some of the messages above. I thought you were to ask people to fan you. I have been doing so and I certainly do not want to upset or offend anyone by doing so. Your bracelets are absolutely gorgeous.
Nov 13th, 2011 at 4:52:30 PM PST by
Original
No, asking people to fan you started shortly after Listia started the "fan" thing, and it became rampant. I could never understand why anyone would think I WOULD fan them for no reason. At first I didn't think much of it, and I probably fanned a few of them, but I have 60 or more auctions running all of the time and I was getting HUNDREDS of people posting the comment, "I fanned you, you fan me." It just made me CRAZY.

I'm not as concerned about it now, but I do try to help people understand that by becoming a fan, you are basically telling everyone else on Listia that you like this person, or have had a good transaction with them. I think we all need to EARN our fans.

If I click on someone's listing I always look to see if I'm already a fan. If I am, I know they are safe to deal with. That's not true if you fan everyone who asks you to.
Nov 13th, 2011 at 5:05:48 PM PST by

The lady responded back to me and just said Thanks for viewing. She wasn't mad at me. I understand when bids are put on an item that, that is it. The seller has to honour the auction, unless there is a GIN. I thought I could offer a gift card in the place of the GIN now. Instead of the seller getting credits, she would get a gift card in its place, but when the stress settled I realized that I still have no choice but to hand over credits. If there were no bids on the item, maybe the person could choose the gift card over the credits. Their chose.

Yes you are right, when people list things on Listia they want their items to be auctioned off for credits.
Nov 13th, 2011 at 4:56:37 PM PST by
Original
No, that's not true. Once you have a bid, you have to honor the auction. If it doesn't end with GIN, you have to accept however many credits you get for it.

Thanks to the both of you. LOL Believe it or not but I am 49 with two grown kids. Sometimes I feel like I am the kid. LOL Yes I will get the hang of it real soon. Once I put my mind to something, that is it. I just explained it to my husband, and he said it makes alot better sense to auction off gift cards for credits, instead of buying them from Listia from now on. I have something I have to put in the oven before my show starts at 9, so I have to go. I will talk more later. It was a pleasure talking to both Morgan and you Nancy. I should have kept up with the emails, but I been wanting to help finish these darn renovations and have been focused only on them for the last so many weeks.

Everything new takes a LOT of getting used to. Listia is different than anything else. I was an ebay seller for a few years so I was familiar with online selling, but Listia requires a whole new way of thinking. Basically, you have to decide what it worth it for YOU to participate in ... how many auctions you list, what you sell, what you want to win and if you can win them with what you have to list ... it's really quite complex, but that's what I like about it, the challenge.

I use the fan feature to keep track of those who I buy from a lot or often. I think it's just like a dog begging when people do that horrid "fanned you/fan me". I use Nancy's words A LOT when people do that to me, and if they don't want to bid, which 99.99% of them don't anyhow, then so be it. It's much more rude of them to do that fly by, drop a "fan me" crap anyhow.

And that's just my 2 cents. The above comments do not in any way reflect those of the wonderful lady running the auction, LOLOL :)

Dear dingy classy lady, I'm ALREADY a big fan of yours! These are unreal pretty beads, something a little different than the bright and jewel-ish colors of most of my beads. I mean, you can wear black with anything, so these would make a really practical piece of jewelry. Good luck ... I have more if you miss them (as usual).

I also FINALLY received my new order of the silver tube spacer beads (for regular beading, not Euro charms). So if you've been wanting any of those, I plan to start relisting the larger GIN lots tonight.

Oh man, I kind of hate Facebook. The only reason I use it is to see my kids' photos (they are in college). You need to fix your privacy settings so people who are not friends can't post comments--and those danged privacy settings are rediculously complicated. I always have to get my kids to help me.

I have several bracelets listed, a bangle and a snake, which sold last night but I have more so will relist it tonight. Just check my other listings, you will see them! The snake I will relist probably around 10:30 pm Eastern time.

You and me ... on the same page. Thanks! And I'm so glad you are thrilled with your Euro charm stuff.

I have a bunch of bracelets in different colors. You might want to just win another bracelet and make another one instead of taking them apart and changing the beads out frequently. My guess is that the clasps and round-bead ends (on the bangles) can only take so much and that if you tried to constantly change beads on them, they would break or fail eventually. So it might be more practical to just have several bracelets.

I'm getting some night bright silver adjustable bracelets soon, so I'll be able to list those in addition to the bangles. I think I have the last of my 8-inch snake bracelets listed now and don't want to buy any more of those since they only fit one size. I like the adjustable ones much better for Listia.
