New York first grade schoolteacher (Helen Hunt, who also produced and directed this film) hits a midlife crisis at 39 when, in quick succession, her husband (Matthew Broderick) with whom she is pregnant, leaves the marriage, her adoptive mother dies, and her biological mother, an eccentric talk show host (Bette Midler), materializes and turns her life upside down, as she begins a courtship with the father of one of her students (Colin Firth). This is a very human and funny story that is acted to perfection by all the players! Heartfelt and achingly true!
