It has a slot for a sim card, but you don't have to have one to use it as a regular tablet. To use it with a different carrier I think you would have to have it unlocked. I hope this helps and thank you for your interest. Sincerely, katy

It's Verizon for the phone, but you can use it just as a tablet if you want, It shows a beautiful picture and has decent sound.
