--Grow throughout US. Wild seedlings show mid/late spring usually before last frost. Some germinate into summer.
--Next year spot ready? Take 1/3 of seeds, mix w/ sand, broadcast (atop snow OK). Tiny seeds. Sand lets you spread evenly. Rake lightly (require lite to germinate), rest in zip lock & freeze - 4-5 wks, sow when spring soil's workable.
--Transplant easily w/ almost no setback. 3% brown germinate easily. Most black w/ varying dormancy. Some viable for decades. 10-30% germinate this season. That's why 200+ seeds. Rest germinate next & next, etc.
--Sow indoors in small tray 6-8 weeks before average last frost. Germination increases w/ lite, strong day & night temp fluctuation, & nitrate in soil. Generous compost in mix increases germination. For temp fluctuation put tray in fridge after dark & return to windowsill in AM til 1st seedlings show. Pot on, move to garden w/ minor hardening off around last freeze date.
--Seeds not germinated viable but dormant. Add rest of mix to a spot where you want Lambsquarters in the future. Plant produces 30,000-100,000+ seeds. You'll have all you can use.
Questions & Comments

. . Interesting that Listia did not alow the letters "Dic" followed by a "k" after the word "Dirty" in my reply to mmcnitt3 to appear. Guess they never heard of the nickname for Richard. I wonder what'll happen when he tries to join Listia.

BREAKING NEWS
- - - - The possessive apostrophe in "Lamb's quarters" has been removed in this & all future listings of the seeds. Why?
- - - -People unknown, claiming to be variously, representatives of rock groups named lamb, lawyers for Gwen Stefani's product line & the executor of the estate of Mary's Little Lamb (that it's deceased must be true - no little lamb could live that long) are demanding a percentage of the credits as royalties. They say the quarters belong to them.

Hi, my word....I am interested in growing some indoors...is that advisable, or wait for spring and do all outside?

. . You can grow them indoors or start them indoors & move outside with minimal hardening off around the time of your last freeze date. They transplant easily with almost no setback.
. . You can also use them as sprouts. If you want to start some in fall to move indoors for continual leaves during winter remember that the mature plant can get 6-9 ft. tall.
. . You can use stems & leaves up to around 2 1/2 ft. tall. Above that the stems start to get tough so just use the leaves.
. . This first season let some plants go to seed (30,000 - well over 100,000 seeds per plant). You'll have all you need for sprouting, grinding into a dark flour, etc.

. . :).....Guess so or call himself "Dicky" (D - ick - y) if he was a real short guy. Let's see if they asterisk that one.
. . Yeh. I've found most of the community to be really nice very helpful people but I did run into my first nummy 2 days ago. Some new guy listed a coupla "Not real" with gibberish in the discriptions. I flagged 'em. Hopefully he wasn't just typewriterly challenged.
. . Anyhow, I'm rooting for ya. Good luck.
