This auction is for a Rare Authentic 1861 $2 Confederate Bond Coupon.
This has been Hand Signed And Numbered. It is Bond Number 2598. These old Confederate Bonds are hard to come by with the smaller denominations a little more accessible. The bond itself is in a tall card holder to give you an idea of its size, but it is approx. 2" X 1" in size.

The scans and /or pictures above are of the actual item that you will receive, and are provided for you to determine the condition and/or grade of it.
I am no longer accepting GIN offers for my auctions, everyone now gets a shot at bidding.
The winner will receive this via FREE SHIPPING W/Tracking.
Remember that all Listia rules apply.
Just let it be known that every Monday and Thursday I actually go to the Post Office and pay the Postage and Tracking in person so that you will receive your item as soon as possible.
Now that the holidays are over, the Post Office is still taking extra days to get packages to their destinations, or having trouble getting them to the correct destinations. I have items that are taking up to 2 weeks for delivery, so keep this in mind when bidding.
Because of this I check all Tracking numbers daily and will keep you informed of anything that is out of the ordinary and when tracking does state delivery, I will get in touch with you to verify that the tracking information is correct if you do not claim receipt by the end of the delivery day.
Thank you for your interest in my auctions and stopping by to view them.

I am offering just a little background information on your current auction item Mark . ' A rare and authentic 1861 $2 confederate bond coupon that is hand signed and numbered. '

As with any war, the Confederate States of America needed to raise money to finance their huge war effort. The two primary ways to do this was by taxes and debt. Confederate Secretary of the Treasury Christopher G. Memminger assumed his duties in February 1861 by floating government loans and creating an instant national debt. In 1861 the Confederacy sold bonds worth $150 million in the so-called Bankers Loan, which secured much-needed specie. The government also tapped agricultural staples through the Produce Loan, in which planters pledged their produce in exchange for government paper. Against the receipts of these loans, Memminger issued Treasury notes, circulating paper money with which the government paid its bills.

I hope this helps fellow Listian members in deciding that they to would like to own an authentic item of American history . .. / M .

thank you for letting everyone have an idea as to what this is.
weirdest thing is... this is worth more now than it was worth the day after the south lost. :) nobody probably even thought about the fact that if the south lost, the paper was not going to do them any good.
makes me think about all of the U.S. Bonds that I do have tucked away.
