Description

The listing, Black Diamond Blush Crape Myrtle has ended.

The blushing-pink blooms float against the black foliage. They are dainty ruffled beauties that cover the tree in soft drifts of color. Blush Crape Myrtle blooms spring through fall. Since it only grows to about 10’ tall and 8’ wide it is perfect for smaller gardens. It handles pruning like a champ and can be kept much shorter if you want. It makes a gorgeous 3’ flowering hedge, especially in the south.

Blush is more resistant to powdery mildew than many other crapes, but like most it is drought tolerant once it is established.

You are bidding on 5 seeds.

One question...how would it do in an area where snow and bitter cold happens even in spring on occasion? Such lovelyness and the size would back the people's son behind our place from taking a 2x4 to the fawns that the doe who lays against our fence. The one day, his dad kept hitting one who was only 1 week old, so his boy could play along my fence and 6 feet outs our property! When I saw that I flipped out on him for the fawn ran into another neighbor's thorn Bush! It took me nearly an hour to untangle her then clean her bleeding wounds! I glared at him and told him that since he did that on my property, that the next time his kid was on my property I would be getting my ball bat to him! That was a couple of years back and they had their land surveyed so that kid would see where their property ends and ours begins. I would never have done that but he hotly point! I raised a son and he never would disrespect another persons land!

I probably would have shot him. Or did what I did to my brother when I caught him hitting one of our beef steers with a baseball bat because the steer needed to be taken to water as they were getting ready to go to auction for 4H and FFA kids for their steer projects for the county fairs. I got it away from him and chased him with it threatening him. Swung it some missing him but on purpose. Although with an adult I would definitely consider hitting him with it. BTW my little brother tried to get me in trouble with my dad just telling the part about me chasing him with the baseball bat. (I should probably tell you I had chased my older brother with a baseball bat as well, so was not new to that). Anyway my dad asked if it was true and I looked at him, told him yes, and that he should ask my little brother the reason why I was chasing him with the baseball bat. My father was furious. First off for abusing the young steer and then for trying to get me in trouble. The steer was taken out of his care and became mine for the fair. He was headshy for all of his life. My father and I were the only people who could handle him.

Regarding the tree. They are not really native to this area but as a grower of blooming trees that are not supposed to live in this area, I am growing them. I presently have a small lavender and am starting, purple, red, pink, white and the blush this year. What I do, is give them special protection for the first 2 or 4 years dependent on the winters. Maybe the first year put a rose dome over it. The following 1 or 2 years a tomato cage around it full of leaves. The following year maybe just 6 inches approx. of mulch and leaves around the base. In your case since the deer are looming you might want to keep the tomato cage around it with some chicken fencing around that otherwise like the baby mimosa tree that I started for some friends in 2015. They planted it late that summer and even though I had told them I thought they needed to protect it with a small covering, they did not and the bunnies ate it all the way into the ground. Must have been yummy. Every time I was there I would check to see if it had come back up. Finally in July, it was coming back up.

Oh boy...there is a mama bunny who has made her home under our deck! I love bunnies, grew up having them as pets. We had this 1 white bunny who would kick the back out of the dog house went up the hill and in about 3 minutes they called to come get her because she was happiest when she would terrorize their chickens. It was almost a daily battle with her so finally my dad made mom let us bring her in the house to live lol. At dinner she would sneak under the table and make her rounds for the things one of us kids would not like lol oh gosh she got rather chubby once inside!

Glad to hear that it finally grew again. I just try to be sure where I live the lake is less than a block so we het those awful high winds...like we had the other day! I don't know about your place but I was waiting for our roof to go bye bye...thankfully no damage here in the marsh but wow around Cle there was some damage and in Chardonnay to the east too. This weather is my worse foe with my damaged back and leg.
