A Texas Native growing to five plus feet in good conditions, This heat and drought resistant perennial shrub rises from a woody root growing 5 or more feet tall in good conditions. The fuzzy soft leaves are what give rise to the common name of puppy dog ears. The yellow flowers are arranged in a cluster at the end of 4-6 inch stems that grow near the top of the main stems. It is a host plant for the Sleepy Orange butterfly and bumble bees seem to really like it as well. Prefers alkaline (Lyme) soils.
