it is a type of faux-leather look. It is actually 100% polyester but looks like a silver leather. It really is pretty cool.

Oh, one more question, will this be coming from a smoke-free home? Homes with pets are fine, I have no allergies.

Yes...it is a smoke free home. I do have pets but they stay on our main floor and the pillow is upstairs in one of my bedrooms. :o)
