Just so everyone knows, these are REAL pearls. You can find out the authenticity of pearls by rubbing them against your teeth, and feeling a sandy, gritty feeling. Pearls are either manufactured and are fake, from freshwater (meaning they come from mussles, and are very natural), or are cultured (meaning they come from oysters or mussles with pieces of different cut tissue from other shellfish, to produce different types of pearls). Their is no way to tell the different between the two, unless the designer or company keep track of the type of shell. Their isn't a really noticeable difference in price between the two types of pearls, I have multiple pearls necklaces, some I have even bought in Italy while I visited there, it's just that cultured pearls are farmed by man. They will not live in the wild, which you find more with freshwater pearls, and it gives a special charm to these pearls. Farmed pearls are opened, have a type of granule placed in it, and then are put back into plotted parts of water.
