Please forgive my ignorance; this looks like a German coin to me but I will not swear to it! One side it has a balding man's head, "MAX PLANCK 1858 - 1947". He is wearing spectacles. There is an asterisk in front of his nose, a "plus" sign (+) back of head.

The back side has "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND DEUTSCH MARK" around the edge, w/ a skinny eagle w/ outspread wings above a large number "2." Under the eagle's left wing is "19," the right wing "61." I'm only guessing this is a tribute coin to the scientist Max Planck, released in 1961.

On the outside edge of the coin are inscribed(?) some little leaf/vine marks and the words: "EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT." The coin is dirty & I have not tried to clean it w/ anything. It measures a hair over 1 inch across. I put a US quarter in the pics so you can compare the size.
