If you plug this in to your laptop, will it give you internet service anywhere? i'm new at all of this and don't really know much about this. i'm wondering if there is a such thing as that. an internet service that gives you internet where ever you are? like me traveling in a car where there are no wifi hotspots and getting internet wherever. do you know? or does anyone know.

no usb cord needed. If you're laptop is not wi-fi capable, this will make it so. If it IS wi-fi capable, this will boost your speed.

usb port is needed for this device of which you have, all computers come with them , plug this in and you get a better signal or a signal period, for the internet
