The listing, Antique Houghton, Michigan Dovetailed cigarette box + Lake Tahoe box for strike anywhere matches? has ended.
These are worn as shown. Zoom in on pics and ask questions. The one on the left is very old and was probably used for cigarettes before filters while the one on the right is for even smaller cigs, such as hand rolled ones or Indian bidis. Nice pair of stash boxes. The top of the Houghton, Mich. box is especially worn out and the writing is cracked and hard to read but it is a dovetailed box. Both are delicate at this point but will be shipped carefully.
The box on the left is 3 & 7/8" long, 2 & 1/4" wide and 1 & 11/16" high. The rounder box is 4 & 1/8" long, 2 & 3/8" wide and 2 & 1/2" high. Those are the outer dimensions.
I don't know for sure the box on the left was used for cigarettes in the old days, but I do recall cigarettes used to be shorter? And the box on the right might be too small for cigs, even the hand rolled kind. Maybe it is actually a wooden match holder. The bottom is curved possibly so you can take matches out of it. After thinking about it that might be what these are for. But I really don't know so it is up to you to decide before you bid on it. Thanks.
