Description

The listing, Scruff & Muff's Soup Kitchen & Dining Hall Pet Cookbook! has ended.

I am the author of 'Grandma's Drugstore' and after it was published, I thought about my fur-friends that consisted of a dog, 2 kitties, and a cockatiel. They needed healthy stuff, too, and good food and treats for them are expensive to buy!

So, I began a 2-year process creating recipes you make at home and thus, 'Scruff and Muff's Soup Kitchen and Dining Hall' was born.

This is an e-book (self-contained ELECTRONIC BOOK inside it's own small program). It was to be published in softcover in 2004 and I just never got around to messing with it because my mom was diagnosed with cancer and I was doing a lot of flying around, visiting her.

I've since decided to just keep it simple and give this away in exchange for credits.

Chapters include:

Breakfasts
Brunches & Lunches
Appetizers
Dinners
Specialty (such as diet food)
Little Mouths (such as baby formulas for those who have lost their moms)
Desserts
Tips and Hints

There is a 'secret' ingredient that I go into great detail about in its use and its inclusion in most of the recipes.

My book was endorsed by my personal vet but he has since passed away and I no longer have what he wrote. Suffice to say that you will be saving a LOT of money and your pets will benefit from the meals and treats!

Winner will receive the web address to download the book along with a specific password to open all areas and print it. YOU CANNOT, HOWEVER, PRINT AND DISTRIBUTE THE BOOK IN ANY MANNER WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.

HOWEVER, winner may make and sell any of the items in the book such as "Puppy Pretzels" (as an example) WITHOUT my expressed permission. Would be great bazaar items made up in pet gift baskets!

It is not illustrated but incredibly simple to follow with making the menus.

I am including a bonus recipe or two in the 'update' section of this listing as soon as that area becomes available just for visiting!

All in all, I'd say there are about 100 recipes that are fun and nutritious!

It really is. I 'tested' friends their pets and some were sick with one thing or another. On the average, in 2 weeks, coats got their luster, eyes were clear and sparkled, and energy was back.

I tested this on our beloved Australian Shepherd, Kahlua, and she was wonderful until she hit age 13. For the most part, all I fed her was homemade but I noticed that if hubby and I went out of town and supplied as good of dog food we could get, that she was constipated when we got home.

My dad had a lot to do with this as well before his passing. The dog I grew up with was also Australian Shepherd, Gretchen, and she was put to sleep at age 18. It wasn't about "table scraps"----my mom separated the meals during preparation somewhat so Gretchen didn't get the spices and added calories. My dad was HUGE on 2 eggs a week (one each in her bowl and mixed with her food twice a week).

Gretchen never went to the vet except at the end where she just couldn't make it to the back door to go potty and she had cataracts. But, 18 years old? I know some make it into the 20's but I'm not sure about the quality of life.

So, I do have many friends and family who vouch for these recipes and gave up on buying commercial pet food. The feedback I've received through the years has been nothing short of amazing with 'recoveries.'

At least you KNOW what's going into the food and how the vitamins are present by cooking up their own meals and using them throughout the week.

I now cannot BELIEVE the cost of pet food and the 'filler' (sometimes CARDBOARD) is still being passed on to the consumer.

Kind of off-topic, but I have been researching commercial dog food lately and I no longer believe itnis fit for ournfurry friends' consumption. Bless you for creating an alternative for people who have done their homework and want to try something better!

Thank you so much! It took me two years to figure out what was essential in their diets and what was (turned out be) harmful. To save a company money, they use recycled paper/cardboard to 'fill the cans' and 'add bulk'? It's nuts...and what is even more nuts is that we will pay these prices TO hurt our friends.

The only thing my vet told me when I had the book completed and he had reviewed it, "The biggest and ONLY problem I see here is that people will be too lazy to do it...even if it's saving them money. Shawna, people want to open a can or bag and dump it in a bowl. They say they love their pets but continue to feed them unhealthy 'convenience' foods."

Thank you for honoring my hard work in helping to provide people with a healthy and cost-effective CHOICE in how they feed their special friends :-)

HI, on the beef and cheese delight approximately how much is that suppose to feed? Up to how many pounds? I feed a 20 lb dog about 1 cup of dry, once a day. What would the equivalent be? Sorry I see you say you aren't good with math and I understand really. Thank you

1 cup of what you're feeding your dog now would be about 3/4 c. because it's concentrated (once a day).

So, if 8 oz. equals 1 cup and the recipe yields 8 cups according to the recipe, you'd have 64 oz. Divide that by 1 c. (8 oz) and you'd wind up with 8 cups. If you're using a 10 oz. can of dog food, (or about 1 1/2 c. of dried), then you'd have 6 cans-worth, roughly (so 6 days worth of food).

The books is 435kb and would take approx. 25-30 sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" paper to print.

The "Get It Now" price is equivalent to about $10 which it was going to sell for after publication because of the rarity of this type of book on the market in hard/soft copy. Of course, once you print it, if you decide to do so, your pages will be fewer on larger-sized paper.

It is completely error and virus-free. I'm a tech and would never give or sell something that would cause computer problems down the road.

Runs well on ANY version of Windows and, because of it's size in this format, fits on any USB key or SD card.

It is currently residing on Panmind, a free/adfree document storage area on the web. For this type of data to be stored, their robots also had to go through it to be sure it contained no viruses or malware which is forbidden on their servers. It obviously passed, so that's a double-check to put your mind at ease.

@dnisey64....oh, wait....you'd only be feeding your dog 3/4 c. (it's very filling, so don't worry about that amount). So that recipe would make you over a week's worth using 3/4 of a cup.

Another Listian sent me some great info I just reviewed and I think all of you should take a look at it:

http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1659&aid=1030

It's what foods to AVOID giving your pets. The chart is right on in that it stresses the point where certain foods should not be fed EXCLUSIVELY. In other words, for example with the dinner sample above, don't feed a cat or dog just 3 c. of cottage cheese by itself! Their diets need to be in balance with other foods including grains (such as that same recipe using basically a loaf of wheat bread). The carrots would be for their eyesight and coats (and, in some cases, help with arthritis) because they contain Vitamin A.
