If you need to know how Bitcoins work, see:

I recommend using either the wallet on your coinbase.com or the Electrum wallet, so you need not store the whole blockchain on your local computer. The blockchain is a record of every transaction that has ever taken place with Bitcoin, which is ~140GB in size. It used to be and may still be that wallets stored on your local computer were the safest and those local wallets required you to have a complete version of the blockchain installed on your computer. Electrum conversely is a locally installed wallet, but it does not require you to store the blockchain locally. I don't know if this is the best of both worlds or a compromise that is less safe than a wallet that downloads the whole blockchain.

Coinbase.com is probably the cheapest and best place to get Bitcoins online. Regarding using an online coinbase.com account wallet, in the past, experts have advised against online accounts because they were getting hacked all the time and Bitcoin owners were losing their coins. An established site like Coinbase would seem to be safe from hackers, but safer still is offline storage in a wallet like Electrum and maybe safest is an offline wallet with the whole blockchain as mentioned, I just don’t know and have trouble finding the answer online.

Anyway, I can send to your Coinbase wallet if you provide me your Coinbase.com account Email or a Bitcoin wallet address. Your Coinbase account Email doubles as an address for your online Coinbase wallet. Normally wallet addresses are about 34 random like characters and you can also generate one on Coinbase and other people can then send you Bitcoins from their wallets outside of the Coinbase system back to your Coinbase wallet. Of course, you can also send me a wallet address from any other online or offline wallet.
