A cat5/cat6 cable has four pairs of wires. 10/100 networks only use two pairs. You would need two of these to combine two connections from your router/switch - good if you only have a single long cable run from your router behind a wall or something. (This won't work for gigabit as it uses all four pairs).

Have you ever tried this, I suspect you haven't, It doesn't work, the two computers you are trying to do this with will have ip address conflicts and will only allow you to connect this way one machine at a time. it does prevent you from having to move the connection all the time though. just you will have to shut the not in use machine down in order to release the ip adress so it can be assinged to the other machine, but the outgoing port on your modem or router will assign only one ip address per port.

I believe you can set up 2 Ip addresses to solve this problem. There is information online you can find on how to do this.
