CANADA Prince Edward Island – 1855 One Half Cent Token

The winner of this auction will receive the exact Prince Edward Island coin shown in the attached photos. This is an unusual coin. Before its Confederation in 1867, Canada was a loose collection of individual European colonies. A decade earlier residents of Prince Edward Island pushed for independent national status. This token was part of that campaign. Ultimately, PEI joined the Confederation in 1873. This coin was probably a ‘metal detector find’. It has light surface pitting which is common when a coin was buried in the earth at one time and exposed to acids in the soil. Despite this, it is not a bad looking coin.
