hi thank you for your inquirery, i know some would use this as a purse, however it is better suited as a bag, the lining is a durable material, and the handles are more for hand held, not shoulder sling. i neglected to place in the out line of the bag that the artical comes from a smoking home, it is new, however i know that smoke has a way of getting into material. agian thank you for your interest. have a nice day
